So Jeffers is a no no then!!??

Will have a look at the other menus and see what I fancy. I'm preggers again so my menu is restricted (no medium rare steak for a while yet ) and my appetite is reduced but I'll suck it up for the hubby. Aren't I a fantastic wife :rotfl:

My last meal in Ratz was served with a fly in the sauce.

The chef dint have the decnecy to come and apologise in person. They then said that there would be "no charge" for my meal... Like I would have actually paid for it I dont think....

    Never went back
  • What was the story with Ratz? Was that the one where the owner sacked everyone by text and did a runner? Can anyone remember when exactly it closed?

From memory it closed around 2 years ago. Shame as I really liked the place and chef even russled up his Signature Chicken dish even though it had been taken off the menu.

The owner of Ratz was interviewed in the Spectator at the time and said he had been forced out by paramilitaries who were extorting money from him.

As regards The Stables, I have boycotted it since I had lunch there with my girlfriend and her mum and dad about six months ago.

The male staff member who seated us was very rude but that wasn't the main problem.

The thing that really annoyed me was that the staff were incredibly ignorant to a young couple who were holding their wedding reception there at the time.

As we were finishing our lunch the bride and groom came into the main bar area. They must have been at most 21 and looked very young and excited as they entered the room on their big day. They stood waiting at the bar to order a drink, the groom holding his wallet and ready to pay.

    And they waited.

    And waited.

Three staff members (including the rude one I've already mentioned) totally ignored them for a good two or three minutes. No 'I'll be with you shortly' or anything.

The young couple looked as though the wind had been taken out of their sails completely and I don't blame them.

By the time they did get served there was no 'sorry for keeping you waiting' etc and the barmaid was very abrupt as if it was somehow an inconvenience that this couple had made her bar too busy for her liking by bringing their reception there!

The couple walked off with their drinks and looked rather dejected. I'm not surprised.

The four of us were appalled by this and bought them a bottle of champagne. When we brought it out to them they were sitting in the draughty hallway, with his jacket around her shoulders because it was February or March and very chilly there.

They were just an unpretentious, unassuming couple sitting with their parents and grandparents and hadn't made a fuss about how they had been treated, although you could see it had upset them.

Their faces lit up when we brought them their champagne and congratulated them on their big day. They were very surprised.

We were so glad we had done something about it for once rather than just sit there being annoyed and moaning. I think part of the reason I had been so annoyed was that my little sister was due to get married a couple of months after that and I thought 'how would she feel?'

I'll never be back in The Stables and I've told this story to everyone who ever mentions the place to me.

I would not recommend the stables either - not great at all.

I like the ava in Bangor - the tapas down stairs - although not authentic are very nice.
