It's the hubby's birthday coming up soon and I'm thinking of taking him out for a meal. We'll leave the little ones at home so it doesn't have to be child friendly. Can anyone suggest restaurants apart from the following:
Ganges - our favourite Indian
Pier 36
Grace O'Neills
Papa Joes
We like most food except sea food and Japanese. Preferably not Chinese either given I haven't had a decent one in at least 5 years. Used to love Ratz before it closed. Anyone know what happened to it just while I'm here?
Thanks in advance.

The Salty Dog in Bangor, on the seafront near the lifeboat station is brilliant, you could have a great meal there.0

Ralph from Ratz up'd stakes & went off touring (again) ... leaving a lot of very unhappy / unpaid staff from what I was told
Anyways, when is the birthday ... the reason i ask is that there is a new South African restaurant opening at Bloomfields in the not too distant future (next few weeks)0 -
You had me worried with the Salty Dog when I saw the starters but the mains look lovely. I'd no idea that restaurant was there but then it's been a while since I drove that far along the sea front.
Birthday is in 2 weeks so I don't think the SA restaurant will be an option but thank you anyway.
I'm happy to travel out of Bangor but not as far as Belfast. Maybe Donaghadee, Groomsport or Holywood if there is anywhere different I don't know of.0 -
Salty Dog has changed hands and is more expensive than it used to be. They (Wolseys) have bought what was the Black Boat (just round the corner) and renamed it something like The Rabbit Rooms. Haven't been yet but I know the chef, who is good.
Another alternative is The Esplanade at Ballyholme.0 -
Rioja at the top of high street in Bangor is good. www.riojabangor.co.uk
There is also the Fat Cat in Ballyholme http://www.fatcatbistro.co.uk/ I've only been there for lunch, which was nice, but they seem to have some good evening meal deals on.0 -
We always use The Stables in Groomsport- lovely exterior / interior, the food / service always top notch, prices are average however it does do an early bird menu from Mon- Thu for £10 for a 2 course meal + drink that I think is a good value."NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FREE FOOD"'They can have my money but not my life!' Debt & mortgage free in 18 years *0

Have you tried Molly Browns in Newtownards. I was there with my family 2 weeks ago and we all had the 2 course meal for £10 each. It was lovely and the staff were very good as well.0
