Day Trip - Calais

Now, I'm off to France at the start of November on a Saturday for a day trip. It will be primarily to visit the hypermarkets and Cité Europe to stock up on stuff for Christmas, but I wondered if people could recommend anywhere else to go in between Cité Europe and hypermarkets?
What is good/not so good to buy out there?
(other than cheese and alcohol... what about electricals? Anything else?)
What's the best times to get to certain places, and where should I avoid?
I know that Calais isn't the best of places to visit, so really this is an excuse for a shopping visit and nothing else, but any suggestions are welcome...
Thanks in advance

if the weather is dry (for November) and you have the time, then 30-40 minutes drive from calais port is Boulgne (not sure if i've spelt that right!).
it's a nice town to look around and as you arrive on the outskirts of town there is a massive auchan hypermarket which stocks far more than the hypermarket in cite-europe.
If you don't want to drive far, then the best suggestion is staying in cite-europe. the hypermarket there stocks everything you need, so there's no need to go to a seperate store in calais.0 -
Washing Powder and Tin Foil are normally quite a bit cheaper !0

Calais os actually quite anice little place- has one of those little Dotto trains that takes you on a tour. We went for a day a couple of summers back, was a nice day out, we didn't go near the hypermarkets, it was just an adventure for dd.:jMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
