LED Lights

Does anyone know any cheap suppliers for these?? I am thinking about installing into a wetroom, utility area but understand they are not as bright so you need more? As a guide would one be suitable enough for about 0.8x0.8 m toilet room? They need to be ip65 rated i believe?

Not only not as bright, but the colour of the light is stark and absolutly awful

Current units are about 1/5 the brightness of a halogen spot

You can get LED's that are bright enough and a good colour (warm white) BUT they ain't cheap - you're looking at £60 + per fitting

I think it depends on how bright you like it in the bathroom.
I personally don't like the very bright light produced by halogens of the 35-50w.

I prefer it dimmer in the bathroom, more like the old filament 40w use to give.

We found some GU10 LED's made by RING in B&Q which are 3.7w (30W in old money) at £12.98 they are nowhere near as cheap as the old bulbs.
Quick calculation and it was a no brainer, it said on the packet life span of up to 25 years. Even if they were to live half of this, you are still up on the ££ and when we turn the light on (we bought 6) the elctro gizmo metre hardly blink compare to a spike of 400w with the old halogens that were there before.

We have 2 of the bulbs fitted above the wet room and it is gives more than enough light.

I've seen some reasonably bright, reasonably priced ones online at a company called Lightplanet which are higher powered equivalents to standard spot fittings. Unfortunately the sub £5 LED bulbs in my experience are pretty poor - we've got a pair of 1W Phillips ones as part of a three lamp strip in our downstairs toilet and it is what I would call romantic lighting rather than proper room lighting, and that's with a fluorescent one in the third fitting (the LED ones are quicker to come on so give some light where the tube one takes a while to warm up but is brighter) I've not tried the lightplanet ones yet but suspect something in that price range may be the answer when I start changing the bathroom and kitchen ones over to LED's (if I get round to it). Maybe worth getting one or two test ones in before you order the full batch - at £4 I guess you can risk it and move up to the brighter £20 ones if you need to.

Hi, I am new here and this is what I do for a living.

The cheapest, easiest and most cost effective way of installing LED lighting in a wetroom is to use IP65 rated mains voltage downlight fittings and GU10 LED lamps.

The downligts have a glass cover on and are rated for wetrooms. They will cost anything between £6 and £15 each.

High spot 3W LED lamps are around £16 each and will give the same amount of light as a 35W halogen. High spot 7W LED lamps are around £25 each and give the same amount of light as a 50W halogen. Both are available in cool white and warm white. They should last at least 15 years too.

As previously stated I would nearly always recommend warm white for home use.
