Been given a 1.5 litre Slow Cooker

A friend of mine has given me a slow cooker he has bought a bigger one to cook for him and his Mum. I live alone so I should imagine it will be big enough for me, being I have never had one before I haven't a clue how to make the best use of it, so I would be grateful for any advise and suggestions. Thanks

Also useful would be a book called Slow Cooking Properly Explained by Dianne Paige full of useful hints and recipes.
Only £3-84 on Amazon:-

Its worth looking up one pot recipes and adapting them for the slow cooker. I have two, a 6.5 litre cookworks one, and a 2 litre one. I like the BBC good food site for one pot recipes.
For slow cooking put veg at the bottom, meat on top, and reduce cooking liquid. Meals can be cooked in 8/10 hours on low, and 4/6 hours on high, or a combination of the two.

Start off with something simple - bolognase sauce is easy. Just use a normal receipe, but about 1/4 less liquid as the tight fitting lid means next to no evaporation. It's easy to freeze in individual portions too.
Try and resist the temptation to peep! I heard you should add 20-30 mins for each peep you have!0 -
ooooh!! I have one this size and I love it!! I usually get about 4 decent portions.
the other week I did beef in guinness -
diced beef
sliced carrot
chopped onion
can of guinness
tablespoon of bisto to help with the gravy
I cooked this on high for about 5 hours but usually I stick it on low about 7:30am and when I get home at quarter past 6 of an evening dinner is ready and waiting for me!! (unless I want to do any mash or something with it!)0 -
Easy one. Chopped onion, diced meat, curry paste (preferably Pataks), tin tomatoes, and water. Stick on low 8/10 hours, or high 4/6 hours.0
