tax credits stopped

Can anyone help?

My tax credits have just been stopped on the basis that I did not complete my renewal. I have in fact completed my renewal and sent it back before the deadline. I have tried phoning the helpline but I get a recorded message saying they are too busy before it rings off. My mortgage is going to bounce next week without my tax credits going in. Ironically, I would normally use my overdraft facility but have just paid an unexpected tax bill so have no flexibility.

I am so sick and tired of the levels of incompetence. I have been investigated twice, the second investigation lasting more than 18 months. Nobody can process or advice me on how to claim for my childcare. I have renewed in writing as I have found it essential to keep a paper trail (despite paper trailing they have recorded my childcare costs as 10 times what I have claimed). I have received a letter saying I owe them £1000 and another letter referring me to a specialist department for people who 'have difficulty with and get easily confused when making a claim' despite the fault being entirely theirs.

Does anyone know how I can get my payments reinstated and who to complain to about these issues?

you have to actually appeal to the tax credits section and take a photocopy of the complaint letter that you write then you send and also send it recorder delivery then you can prove what was sent and when also keep a diary of any phone calls and keep the persons name and time and what was suggested. but in the mean time reclaim this is your best option i would also go to your local jobcenter and explain they should be able to direct you to the best course of action
the citizens advice is also a great place to go
good luck with it keep us up to date

in future always send your renewls by recorded delivery or do it over the phone its a lot quicker

Hi, thanks for that. Is there a specific department to address complaints to?

The reason I do everything by post is to keep a papertrail. I have ended up owing thousands of pounds because they haven't known how to process my changes to my childcare (this is an ongoing issue even with papertrailing!). On this occasion I was worried about the deadline so tried to call to renew; both the main renewals number and the specialist department but both were ringing off as too busy.

    Will keep trying...

    There is an easier way

use this number you will get through in under 1 min 0845 300 36 00

The advisor can re-open your claim as you have 30 days from them closing it and supply him with the info and your claim will start back from the day it ended.

I done the same on sunday and my money was in the bank today
If you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter ;)

    Use this number 01355 395007
They will have a proper moan about it, but they answer straight away.

Finally managed to get through and claim reinstated. I'm going to complain in writing although I'm not sure it will do me any good. Thanks for support!
