Nationwide: charged for lost/stolen/damaged cards

Sorry if there's a duplicate thread on this, I did see some posts relating the other recent Nationwide changes but not this one.

Looks like a charge is being introduced for every lost/stolen/damaged card over a 2 per year limit (assuming you are 18+). The charge is £10 per card.

Now I'm not saying I replace 5 cards per year due to losing them, but I happen to have 3 Nationwide cards in my wallet. If I'm mugged at gunpoint, I have to pay to cancel at least 1 of the cards????? That doesn't seem right if so. What about if a new card arrives in the post damaged? Or doesn't arrive at all - does that count as lost?

I'd like to think they mean you have 2 free replacement events (i.e. being robbed of 3 cards counts as 1 event), but with the recent non-customer friendly changes Nationwide are making, I somehow doubt it.

It might only be a little thing to some, but it's the principal of it that doesn't sit well with me.

Edit: as people have pointed out below, looks like I might be wrong on this one as the 2 free replacements may be per account and not per customer which is somewhat more reasonable.

I read it to mean a limit of two per year on the same account, so replacing lost cards on three different accounts would be free.

In this case, I don't doubt it.

Leaving aside the fact that the planned changes I have seen seem to only relate to the FlexAccount and not other Nationwide accounts (at the moment), it would be unusual for the charge not to be based on a per account basis (i.e. 2 free card replacements per account rather than per customer).

I agree this is not explicitly spelled out, but the reason for that is probably just an assumption that the vast majority of customers would only have one FlexAccount rather than anything more sinister.

I personally consider this new charge to be a positive change rather than a negative - having more than 2 cards lost, stolen or damaged within a year indicates either incredible misfortune (which surely applies only to a very small number of customers) or carelessness (which I think it is fair that the customer pays for and not other Nationwide members).

If this is the case, then I'd agree 2 per account per year is reasonable. Anymore could be considered to be careless. Though again, I bet there will be cases where 1 or even 2 could be lost in the post in which case I'd hope Nationwide wouldn't be looking to charge.

I have 2 FlexAccounts which perhaps is unusual, and I suppose I was assuming credit card replacements would soon be subject to this charge also.

i can see y in terms of 'lost' but i doubt that can really work if u have a crime number when stolen?
with damaged it could easily be their fault with the chips, like the crapwest cards with the equally crap chips.
