Does anyone bulk buy meat from somewhere like costco? Does it work out cheaper? I am still struggling to get my head around 'costing' meals:( and not sure if it works out cheaper to go to local shops or to buy from somewhere like costco.
TIA

Hi, I bought some stewing steak and a piece of brisket from costco yesterday. I think it was about the same price as Morrisons but I am told the quality is a lot better. I bought stewing steak once before and it was really nice. The fresh salmon is lovely and my daughter reckons it is better value than supermarket. I'm not very good at costings either. I think Costco is generally expensive but there are some good bargains to be had and the quality is good.Second purse £101/100

The meat is good quality from Costco, you will spend more as obviously you are buying bulk, but i think it works out very well as long as you discipline yourself (or others in your household!) to stick to the amount of meat you normally use and portion/freeze the rest. First shop i did there OH used half a pack of mince for two of us...the packs are HUGE...i nearly died!
I must admit i have stopped shopping there currently, but only as i needed to add in the cost of fuel etc which made it less cost effective.
I find buying what is on offer at the supermarket can work out cheaper, but the cuts of meat imho aren't always as good as those i buy from costco.
Sorry i can't be any more helpAugust: £149/£150
Sept: £200

We buy mince from there and divide it into suitable size portions (There are generally only two of us) and freeze it.
Not sure how the price compairs but the quality is superb.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Thanks all may give it a go and see what happens.0

We have an excellent village butcher and always buy our meat there, although we have been very impressed with the quality of meat at Costco and would probably buy there if our butcher closed his shop. Yes, the meat seems expensive because it is sold in bulk and you would need to split it up into manageable portions. Their minced beef is excellent quality and generally far superior to much of the stuff you can buy in supermarkets.0

It is about £13 something for a tray of mince which I split into 6 portions and there is more then enough for 4 of us, it would all depend on how many of you there are and how big the portions you make it into but it is better quality meat as well, the cheese is also a very good price I think and there milk is £1.45 for 6 pints so I do stock up on there milk when I go.
I also buy nappies and washing powder from there. you just need to keep your eye out on the offers I got 10 tins john west Tuna last week for £4.99 and I did notice in Asda yesterday it was 4 tins for £5.29:eek: Glad I saw them in costco:D:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
I buy most of my meat from Costco, chicken fillets, steak mince braising /diced steak.I think its similar prices to supermarkets but better quality....I like to think of it as Butcher quality at supermarket prices.
I buy a tray of mince around £12 and freeze that into 6 portions of aprox 400gm ,same with diced steak...maybe spend around £14 and get 4 or 5 portions.sorry cant remember how much the chicken fillets are....i think mince is around £5 a kilo and diced/braising steak is aroun £5.75 kilo(tho Aberdeen angus is more expensive.there are often good deals onpork joints/chops full and 1/2 gammons.lamb(which i dont buy,cos no-one here eats lamb)Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

Hi EstherH I have got a card which I get from work so it works out about £13 a year which is better than an individual membership. I went on Monday with a friend and was looking at the chicken/meat etc but have never bought it before I was canvassing for opinions which are all good so I think I will give it a go. I did get my milk there the other day.0

I buy some meat from costco , the quality is excellent and when they have offers on you cant beat it .
I buy the minced beef too but you need to have room to freeze it as it comes in large quantities
they do 2 large chickens for about £6 which is really good value , i bought a few when they were half price (£3.30 for 2 chucks! :T)
some stuff is pricy though but you get what you pay for0
