ADSL and Phone problem

Hi everyone
I'm having a problem that I never used to have, but I can't pinpoint when it started.
I have a ADSL filter plugged into the phone line and the modem is plugged into it and also a phone line for the Sky. This is in the lounge. In the hall is the main phone point which also has a filter, but just has the phone plugged in.
For some reason, at the moment, I can only get either the phone line or the DSL connection, not both. I've played with the filter and oddly enough, when I move it, the connections switch from phone to DSL and back again with the movement, however I can't get both at the same time.
I swapped the filters over in case the one in the lounge was faulty and still have the same problem. The only thing that has happened recently is that I had Sky+ box fitted (Sky was already in) and Sky in the bedroom that is not connected to a phone line.
I don't know if this happened at the same time as I don't know how long the phone line has been out.
Does anyone have any ideas please? I don't want to buy a new filter to find it's not faulty?
Many thanks
Jackie

My mantra is simple: If I don't help myself first, I shouldn't expect it from others. If I don't like something, I will change it. If I can't change it, I will learn to deal with it.
I accept responsibility for my own actions and my own situation. A sense of entitlement is not healthy and will only lead to consistent disappointment.
