Vent & Warning! Mobile Call Charges!

Options
Well,

I have been with Orange for a few years now and have found them to be an OK company to be with. I suppose they're all samey. I travel quite frequently all over the world, and any time that i have used my phone abroad I have obviously had to pay the charges, which I thought were fair, for the destinations I had visited. That was of course, until i received my last bill! I visited Mexico for the first time. I used my phone minimally, turned off my roaming. I expected a higher bill but not the extreme! I rang orange to ask if there was some kind of mistake. a 3 minute 10 second call cost me £7! and a 4 minute 4 second call cost £8.75!

The call charges from Mexico (Now I know...) are £1.75 a minute, meaning that the few calls I made back home on my holiday cost me 2 and a half times what my Phone bill costs me in the first place.

I thought they were trying to make a fairer pricing rule for holidaymakers?

Anyone else had this trouble before?

I know this has probably been said before, and I bet some of you are thinking 'It's your own fault' What do you think?

Natztastic.

I think you should have looked at the tariff for the country you went to *before* you went there so it wouldn't have been a shock :)

The fair pricing rules apply within the EU. Last time I looked Mexico was quite a lot outside the EU.

Your fault for not checking the charges before you made calls.

    You probably won't get one.

As someone who used to work for a mobile phone company, I got very bored of queries like yours.

    1) Mexico is outside the EU, therefore call charges are higher
    2) Check the tariff before you go to avoid surprises

It could be worse, you could have left your answerphone on and have been charged by the minute for people leaving messages, even if they hung up after 1 second.

Knowledge is power, at least you won't make the same mistake again!

Well I think this is the nicest one that I will get :) Haha.

Yes you are true about that.

VERY glad that I remembered to turn off Roaming... or I might have to re-mortgage!

Call charges abroad can be crazy. People are sometimes naive in thinking 'Oh it won't cost that much more....'

Probably the most memorable customer had a bill for about £1k.....'But I only downloaded a couple of things!'
