Hello,
I have had my Dell laptop for a few years now and this morning i have started to have a few problems with the screen.
I turned it on and logged in, after a minute or so the screen went black but i was still able to faintly see the programs that were loading / running.
I shut the lid and reopened it, colour returned and it went into standby mode.
Turned it back on from standby mode, a few mins later the screen went black again.
It is doing it when plugged into the Mains, and also when running from the battery.
I have changed all the battery/AC settings so that it should never go into standby but it is still doing it. Any ideas?
All help with be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, start off by making sure your brightness is all the way up (probably Fn + up arrow repeatedly, once windows has booted up)
If still no joy, you have probably lost the backlight, which will need replacing. This advice is given on the basis that you can faintly see the image on the screen.
It could still be worse, it could be power to the light itself. But there is no way to know without it being looked at0 -
I also seen this where the cable from the motherboard to the LCD ( which goes via the hinge) is pinched or damaged.Back light change on these is not too hard , undo the screws in the corners of the screen , insert thumbnail where the screen meets the bezel at the bottom and it will pop away
backlight is thereEx forum ambassador

Be aware a lot of inspiron screens have doublesided sticky tape between the bezel and the lcd panel along the bottom.
It does sound like a pinched cable causing your inverter board to cut out though.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer0 -
