Duff Sony Camcorder Screen

After only two years and having hardly ever been used the LCD screen for my £300+ camcorder is crocked. It has a one year warranty. The local Sony Centre says they will charge £75 for someone to have a look and if there is something that can be fixed I'll not be much short of £200 out of pocket. Their advise - don;t bother - go buy a new one. This is disgraceful. The think is almost new and hardly used and I'm expected to bin it!!!
I read an article fairly recently about iPods conking out after a year or so and that the Sale of Goods Act states that consumers should reasonably expect an electrical item such as iPod (or Camcorder?) to lasy about 5-6 years.
The Camcorder was bought onl-line from a web-retailer.
Anyone got any thoughts on this and who I should approach. If the sale of Goods Act is an outside possibility do I make a standard complaint first of all and only go there as a last resort. Do I have reasonable grounds for complaint. Could I claim that the LCD screen is actually a 'computer' screen and therefore covered by the Sony three year LCD screen warranty (actually intended to cover computer monitors)
thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice

You should pursue Sony... definately, send them a letter quoting the exact sections from the sale of good act and see what they do...0

whats up with the screen?
is it not working at all or fizzy etc?
You might be able to do a DIY on it, save some money...0 -
Screen is compeletely blank and looking through the viewfinder I see a load of 'on screen display' info not relating to anything in particular - like a default 'dump' of info.0

Maybe a loose connection somewhere or broken cable to the monitor0
