Privilege NCB Named Driver

Hi all,

I phoned up Privilege last night to check my NCB and a few other details. I have been on my mum's policy for 4 years as a named driver earning a NCB, but she has a new car and as I've moved out, the old one will be mine.

The issue is, when I spoke to Privilege last night, they said that other insurers probably wouldn't recognise the named driver NCB. Anyone have experience with this, to confirm that he is right? The guy did say "probably" and so I was a little dubious and thought it would be best to check on here.

I'm not going to stay with them anyway, as interestingly enough, I got a quote from them and found a quote at another insurer for over £200 cheaper, with zero years NCB! I will obviously go with that because I am happy with the price, but if I could transfer my NCB as well, I will be pretty chuffed :)

Yep appears named driver NCB is often only accepted "in house"

a new provider may not be giving actual NCD but applying a discount to represent a period of no accident driving ( a bit like ex company car drivers discount)

Hi, the other company will be cheaper as in the past some insurers gave up to 30% or so introductory discount which you loose after the first year. Personally I change insurers every year to get the best price. I doubt any one will give the named driver discount and the introductory discount as well.

Okay, thanks for responses! I'm still happy with what I got quoted and think I will follow your route, keith1950, of switching every year :)

The only benefit for staying with Privilege ,in your case, is that if they accept you have 4 years now and it is recorded on your paperwork ,then in a years time you should get a renewal notice stating that you then have 5 years NCB, which can be used to get better quotes elsewhere. So by paying the extra £200 now you could reduce your future premiums. !!!
