    I had this problem a while ago. Have a look at the second post on this page:

    Similar instructions to these solved things for me.

    Start the registry editor. The left-hand side has a tree of keys. You need to navigate through them as follows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class
    {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Once you reach that key have a look at the values in the right-hand side. If there are items named UpperFilters or LowerFilters then right-click on them and select Delete. Then you need to restart Windows.

    managed to get the cd/dvd player working after doing the bit in the registry editor,
    the problem im getting now is theres a wee box thingy at bottom left of screen saying"safely remove hardware",when i click on it its saying safely remove netgaer, which is my wireless connection.
    also the 2 wee screens keep coming up with a red X +i cant get a internet connection,
    should i remove netgear from pc+reinstall?
    any help would be great.
    thanks

    A perfectly normal message that you will see when any USB (aka "removable") device is plugged in to a USB port.

    That icon refers to your onboard (hardwired) network adaptor, again a perfectly normal message if the computer is not connected to any type of network using that adaptor.
    If the message annoys you that much, you can disable it in the network card properties.

    You could check that the wired connection is disabled in control panel/network connections if you are using wireless.
