What paint for shabby chic look?

I have some pine furniture in my bedroom and would like to paint it to make it look shabby chic.
What type of paint is the best to achieve this look e.g. satin finish, matt etc?
Is it better to invest in something like Farrow and Ball or is the Dulux ones just as good.
I am a novice and never painted anything before so any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Thanks

The technique is more important than the paint brand, I would go for a matt paint F & B do some nice colours that fit the SC look. http://www.junkmarketstyle.com/assets/uploads/posts/10315/dresser_1_lg.jpg
If that is the sort of thing you want to do, you would have to paint it quite roughly then sand in back on the edges to expose the wood beneath.0 -
Arghhhhhhh, post just deleted tiself. Get over to shabbychic thread on oldstylemoneysaving forum for more help on this. F & B have a lot of SC'ish colours but there are ZILLIONS to choose from! I much prefer an eggshell as opposed to a gloss etc for the matt finish0

Not entirely sure what you mean by the shabby chic look, but if it's what poster above says with having bits of paint rubbed back in the corners, then the key is to wax the areas you want to rub off before you paint. Just get an old wax candle or similar and rub onto the bits of the furniture you want to distress. Then paint all over on top and where it's been waxed the paint should rub off quite easily.0

OP, do you mean 'distressed' or just SC style with colours etc?0

I'm not sure which type of paint to use.
Is it vinyl silk, emulsion etc?
I'll go off and look at the shabby chic thread for some ideas.

For shabby chic, read shabby looking. But then, I suppose it takes all sorts to make a world. Think how boring it would be if we all liked the same thing.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
