Hi My son is looking for a program that will enable him to convert songs he has on the computer to MP3 so that he can put them on his phone, as that will only take MP3 format. Anybody any suggestions please, preferably free!

You haven't said what format he has them stored as on his PC. If they're in iTunes, which is the most likely, they'll be AAC format and he can use iTunes to convert them to MP3 - see 'Saving a copy of a song in a new file format' in iTunes Help.0

If they are in .wav, or if you have the CDs there's a free program called CDEx which extracts to .mp3 http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/ Then, if your son just wants short ringtones rather than the full track, there's another free program called Mega mp3 splitter http://www.5cup.com/shareware/Audio___MP3-Utilities___Plug-Ins-Mega_mp3_splitter-1.1.html which lets you choose sections of an .mp3 to save.0

You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0

Not free but an excellent program I found was Adobe Audition. Very good for converting. It will also let you edit the song aswell.0

Looks like deciding which to use is the difficult bit!!
Are there any programs that will write mp3 files to a CD as a normal audio track?0 -
I think you'd lose quality but I just use Nero for things like that."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
