MY message to Debenhams/CPP

This is what happened when I contacted a centre to activate my Debenhams card, and was bombarded by a sales pitch, with the connivance and approval of Debenhams PLC.Ihave emailed this mesage to CPP,a Card Protection business based in York.I cant imagine what the second P stands for-parasites or perhaps pedallers of propaganda.
I phoned your number (0800 915 2205) to activate my Debenhams card.I was informed by your advisor(in the Chesterfield call-centre)that the call was acceptable and that as a result of gaining security clearance my card had been activated.I had no advice about security issues and no reference was made to the despatch of my PIN number etc. Instead I was subjected to asales pitch, denied access to written terms and conditions and given much unsolicited information and propaganda about ID fraud and how a £84 annual payment could be taken from my card that morning.I have since found you sell the policy for £69.99 directly and that Debenhams receive a £14 kickback from CPP.The advisor then terminated the call without my consent. Please retrieve my phone call using my number(0514 2*3288**809) and send me a copy for reference to the FSA with whom I have been in touch for improper selling

Does anyone have any ideas about how to maximise the impact of my grievance

Can't help, but you may want to blank out your phone number in your postCompetition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0

I used to work for these guys and they are ridiculous in terms of selling. in addition the products are utter rubbish and no one ever claims on them. I dont think that helps but they are good with data protection claims so if you make a request under that you should get what you want.0

Not sure what the complaint is. They tried to sell you something, you've said no. How is it improper selling? And the pricing is no surprise - or any thing out of the ordinary.
I also don't recall ever being asked for my consent for a phone call to be ended. How does that normally work?!0 -
For what its worth the same thing happened to me when I rang to activate my new Barclaycard.
Took my detais to activate my card then started on a sales pitch.........I took the hump & a was a little 'sharp' shall we say.
They must all be at it.0 -

They are, and they have been for at least the last ten years.
They should focus on informing people of proper procedures for using the card in a safe manner (i.e. warning not to use the card in a cash point that looks like its been tampered with etc etc) rather than "would you like to buy something?".
Of course, that wouldn't make them any money, would it...0
