windows saying theres no security turned on

ok, when i logged on i got the windows security window popping up saying that there is no firewall or malware protection turned on. when i click on the drop down the only things available to have turned on are what we get included with windows. however i have kaspersky 2010 installed and it appears to be working. hijack this says kaspersky is running and so does task manager. i have even done a quick scan with it.
i tried turning the pc off and then on again but the windows security is still saying the same thing.
should i be worried.

i havent tried this so cannot verify that it will work but it might be worth a read through and see if u feel comfortable trying it

Sometimes, Windows Security Center stop recognizing your antivirus or firewall... The fix could be fairly easy for the most part.

1. Go to control panel and open Administrative tools.
2. Click on services.
3. Go down to Windows Managament Instrumentation.
4. Stop this service. Stop Security Center service too.
Let them to Automatically start.
5. Exit out of this area to your desktop.
6. Right click Start and choose Explore.
7. Go to c:\windows\system32\wbem\repository.
Delete this subdirectory ONLY. Let the others there.
Sometimes, only using Unlocker, MoveOnBoot or Delete FXP you can delete these files.
8. Exit back to your desktop and reboot your computer (maybe you need to boot twice).

This will rebuild the deleted folder and the database. Once restarted, Windows Security Center should show the correct info and antivirus and firewall should now be recoginized Wink

On Vista, the following procedure seems to work:

1. Go to control panel and open Administrative tools.
2. Click on services.
3. Stop these services:
Windows Security Center
Windows Managament Instrumentation
SBSD Security Center Service (if you use Spybot Search & Destroy).
4. Let all them to Automatically start.
5. Remove the directory C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository
6. Go to Services and Continue all the Services above or go to next step.
7. Reboot

You can upgrade to the KIS 2011 whilst you're thinking about it....or is it just the Antivirus you are running?

to be honest i dont care if it is falsely saying i dont have certain security turned on. i am more worried if there is some sort of malware or serious fault causing it and there is the worse worry that despite appearing to be working could windows be right and is kaspersky not working even though it appears to be working.

i dont like to download it i always get a disc of the newer version when the current one runs out. this wont be until october.

This is beyond my comprehension. There is a newer version available and you don't like it because you don't get a CD with it?

because i will need to renew when the current sub ends via a card online. i dont want to give them my card details and i always manage to find it at half the price in a store. i installed this years a day earlier than it was due thinking it would still run for exactly one year after the end of the last one but it didnt work out like that. by installing a day earlier it then said to me it would be due for renewal a day earlier this year. i dont see how kaspersky can be the issue here anyway. it must be something related to the pc that is causing the issue.

It is free to download and install. It will work with your current licence. If you have 100 days left with 2010, you will have 100 days left on 2011.

last year mine was due to end on 31st october. i installed the latest version on 30th october thinking along the logic like you have explained here. i thought it would last until 31st october this year. according to the software it ends on the 30th october. so i lost a days worth of subscription.

I don't think you have one of those rogue security progs(virus) as they bombard you with multiple (false) warnings. For peace of mind you could run malwarebytes and/or combofix - never had a problem with running either of these myself. Got those progs a lot earlier this year but not seen one for a few weeks now.

If there is a problem with a loss of days, you can call support to rectify any problems. That's the benefit of having paid for software.
