Growing Cuttings in Water

  • Impatiens work especially well in water. I've had a small amount of success with penstemons, but not enough to convert me from sticking them in gritty compost. I've always meant to try those gelpots you can buy for cuttings - friend of mine had great success with fuchsias, both annual & perennial.

    Ivies work brilliantly!
  • Fuschias work well for me - never thried geraniums but have 5 plants that I want to look after for next year and hope to take cuttings from them .

So I need to wait till they have finished flowering? Is there best practice when deciding which shoots to cut?

Just take cuttings of about 3" and they should root well now. I have a good few rooting now and they have started rooting in about 3 weeks, mind you I do use small size jiffies.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
