My Indesit Washing Machine is 26 years old, has survived six house moves and been used roughly twice a week during all that time. Only attention it has ever needed was a replacemnt door seal

My Hotpoint was purchased in.......err, 1972 ish.
In that time it's had two drive belts, a couple of door seals, a replacement plastic door centre, and 2 or 3 sets of motor brushes, and a replacement damper. All done by myself so no labour charges involved.
It's now on it's last legs with the paint peeling and the drum bearings rattling like a bag of spanners.
If it survives until the weather gets a bit warmer, I'm sure I've got a spare bearing assembly somewhere in the garage.:)0 -
Well they don't make them like that anymore! MY Indesit is only 6 months old & need a new motor & door seal. Plus the poxy engineers took 5 attempts to fix it!0

I bought an Indesit W103 four years ago. I had an engineer come out to fix the same problem 4 times (Dial would click round half way through a programme and never finish the cycle). This happened approx 3 times a year every year. Sometimes if I just left it the problem would go away other times it would continue till the engineer arrived. I had a new motor and 2 heating elements fitted eventually.
My friend also has the same model and the same fault. So did the 3 people listing the same model on ebay as a repairable item. (I was browsing for a new machine). Probably a fault with the model I hear you cry. Nope Indesit said it was "just one of those things" AND "machines just stop working".
I would NEVER buy an Indesit again. My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely0 -
Its not "just one of those things" - thats one of those "poor attitude from a bored call centre person" things ! I would complain in writing to higher management - sure there is a site dedicated to assisting people do just that (apart from MSE).
And as for "machines just stop working" - they stop working for a reason - they don't just decide to retire to Portugal to improve their golf handicap - bearings go - elements go - again off-the-cuff comments from a bored call centre person who just can't summon up the energy to assist. Complain.
Come on stir it up ! They won't improve unless all of us do so !0 -
Even though this thread is OLDE, I have had a bad problem with Indesit cookers and fridges, they both broke and I threw them away.
The fridge blew due to a fault and the cooker heated unsafely. However, I have an old Indesit dishwasher and it works perfectly!0 -

I have an indesit dishwasher and in the 3 years I have had it, it has burnt through 4 switches (apparently a fault in this particular model). It has been a nightmare and I can't wait to change it.0 -
I have had my Indesit cooker and hob for 10 years now and have never had a problem with it. Have had WHIRLPOOL Washing machine that lasted 5 years, the second 2 years ... never again. Nothing is built to last these days, thats why white goods are so much cheaper than 10 years ago.0

Our Indesit washing machine was about 30 years old, seeing us through the nappy years etc, when we finally decided it had had its day. We still went for Indesit - no problems yet - but had to laugh when salesman tried to sell us an extended warranty. We told him how long last one had lasted. "Well this one won't"! was his rejoinder!!!0

LOL. Fortunately Mr K mends most things that go wrong around the house - and even the old Indesit had had some attention. I knew about the different companies taking each other over etc - much the same with catalogue shopping. Many years ago I worked for a thermostat company - even then, many thermostats were same for different machines, but labelled slightly differently. I remember the day when the one on our cooker hob was faulty. Mentioned it to my boss, who promptly brought a new one to my office "laboratory tested - then you can work instead of taking time off to wait around for a repairman who doesn't turn up". Things don't change much .....0
