Going back to my maiden name after divorce

I'm in the middle of a divorce, which will be completed very soon and when it's over I want to go back to my maiden name. I've been given conflicting advice and not sure what I need to do. My sister told me I have to do it by deed poll, but a friend told me I don't need to do that because I'm changing it back to what is on my birth certificate. If I follow my friends advice do I just contact the relevant companies (bank, utilities, DVLA etc) and say I would like me know as my maiden name or will they need proof?
Also, once I've changed my name, do I go back to being a 'miss' or do I become a 'ms'?

You dont have to change your name by deed poll. When I reverted back to my maiden name, I had to send my decree absolute to banks, DVLA ect. Utilities where quite happy to just change name over the phone. Depends on who it is as to what documentation they would need. Best to ring and ask.
As for being a Ms or Miss, thats personal preference. I prefer Miss, but thats just me x0 -
Mine will be done in about 5-6 weeks and I am going to be using my maiden name too.. apart from at school.. it is just sinpler to have them use the childrens surname.. but apparently as you never actually 'lost' your maiden name you do not need to change it back by deed poll.. you can also, should you wish, continue using your married name.. which is possibly easier if there are children with that surname.. apart from for me I have a baby with my new partner and she has my maiden name.. complicated or what lol..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Thank you. I think I would prefer miss to ms! I do have a child but he is from a previous relationship and still has my maiden name so there's no issues there
