Cloves you can buy from any supermarket, but DH bought some recently from our local healthfood shop far cheaper. HTH.
I do like the idea of the orange pomander, I saw them on sale in a NT property and they were expensive ..... I have some cloves, I have an orange, I have some ribbon ... mmmmGC - March 2024 -0 -
I have read somewhere (probably the Trade Secrets book) that putting some charcoal or (unused) cat litter in a bag or sock in your shoes/warbrobe helps to get rid of the smell. Probably works in the same way as the bicarb.
I open the wardrobe doors in the morning too to get some air in there, it helps to keep things smelling fresh too.0 -
not at all os but to clear the smell totally afterwards and clear smell upstairs use those little comfort sachet things that are meant for hanging in your wardrobe,i think they are about £2 for a 3 pack from most supermarkets.
if you pop one in the wardrobe and leave the door open it'll make all upstairs smell lovely.
i do this anytime i have a prob like that.0 -
Oh yeah! Those comfort sachets are great, we bought some when we moved in here (March 2003) and they still smell so I suppose £2 isn't that bad afterall!0

I'll look out for those, thanks.
I'll get bicarb when I go shopping at the weekend.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I think I would remove all footwear to an outside shed or garage, then set about cleaning and refreshing your wardrobes with the above suggestions. Once you have got rid of the smell, re-introduce your shoes after treating and de-smelling with bicarb. This way, too , you can be sure it is the shoes that is causing the problem.0

Don't put just-removed shoes in the wardrobe - air them overnight outside the wardrobe or even on the window ledge if necessary. Feet sweat a lot and so shoes need to evaporate.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

And possibly find somewhere else to store them? I've put racking in our understairs cupboard to keep all the shoes, because they do whiff after a while, and the smell can go into your clothes too. Another idea I saw in a book on storage I found at the library was to make a wooden tray on wheels to fit under the bed and take all the shoes.0
