Provisional driver query
Just a query to settle an argument......my son is 17 in two weeks and is going to start taking driving lessons, his provisional has arrived today and states to learn in a car he just needs l plates and another person in the car aged 21 or over, does this mean the 17 year old doesnt have to be insured on the car to learn to drive in it? I have looked and cant seem to find much information about this online.
Im more than willing to take him out in my car but not if its going to cost me a grand in insurance premiums.
Thanks

Of course he needs insurance! :rotfl:0

Not only does your son absolutely need to be insured, his supervisor is subject to the same rules as if they were driving. So they cannot be drunk, or answer their phone while supervising the learner.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
Every driver of a motor vehicle needs at least third party insurance by law, whether on a provisional licence or not.
To clarify, the supervising driver does not necessarily need to be insured to drive that car (as they are not actually driving), although they usually are in practice.0 -

Seriously, what do you think? OF COURSE THEY NEED TO BE INSURED.0 -
Collingwood or Marmalade are worth looking at.0

Adding him as a provisional licence holder to your insurance may not cost a fortune. But once he passes you have to tell the insurance company this and the real pain will come.0

I've just added my husband as a provisional learner on my policy - and it's now the princely sum of £3 LESS a year! :rotfl: So it might not be as costly as you think.
I will spend the rebate wisely!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
