Credit Rating ruined by incorrect data!

Options
Hi All,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, i couldnt see a credit rating area?

Anyway, after getting debt free about 4 years ago and building up my credit rating to good, i checked it today to find it had dropped to poor!

Turns out British Gas had entered 4 months of missed payments on a balance of £34, which was incorrect to begin with!

I closed both my account with BG, in Jan 2010 and moved to another company, end of july out of blue i got a letter saying i owed £34 for moving away while on a fixed deal.

I phoned and explained that the fixed deal ended dec 2009, and i went onto standard rate for 2 weeks while i changed suppliers, which they new was happening.

After a long debate, they agreed that it was strange my gas went to standard rate, but the put my electric on another fixed deal???? they admitting it was a mistake and on 4th Aug 2010, removed the £34 charge.

Only today i found the credit entries in experian! i phone BG straight away, was not allowed to speak to the data entry people, but was told and enquirey would be raised, even thought they could see the £34 had been removed on the 4th.

This has totally screwed my credit rating its gone from 889 (good) in march 2010, down to 553 (poor) due to the entry for payments 4 months over due.

should i wait and see if they will correct it quickly, based on my phone call? Or put it all down in writing to the complaints department?

Really unhappy all my hard work has been ruined by BG making errors:mad:

I think it would be sensible to follow up your phone call with a letter. If the matter isn't resolved with 14 days you might want to ask Experian to take the matter up for you (just contact us through the website or by letter). Assuming BG remove the late payments from your report, your Experian Credit Score should recover to its previous level.
