repair or replace sump? please help
Options
Hi, my citroen berlingo started leaking oil and I noticed a crack right where the bolt is. I patched the whole bolt up with bonding putty and had no leaks since. But the problem is the MOT is due and I don't think it will pass because of this.
I got a quote of £242 to replace the sump which includes taking the engine out then putting it back in?! Can't they just take the sump off and put the new one on without touching the engine?
Please help me here! Thanks

I don't think any reputable garage can take a motor out of a car and put it back in for £242. This would need speed not seen since the great "drop and re-fit a VW beetle motor" races of the 60's.
I think that's just parts and fitting.
Not cheap I agree.

The state of your sump is irrelevant for the MOT. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
So log as the putty is stopping leak I would leave well alone, leaking or putty stopping leak nothing to do with mot.0

Even if it leaks oil it's not an MOT fail, unless it fouls the brakes. If it was nearly all classic cars would fail the MOT. Plus have you ever noticed all the dark spots in supermarket car parks where cars parked previously have leaked oil? I'd say around 50% of cars on the road leak some amount of oil. All an MOT tester would do is put it down as an advisory notice.
As above if not leaking a serious amount don't bother, they don't check this for the MOT.0 -
Just MOT it, as said not an issue, the MOT does not check the condition the engine (except emissions).0

Thanks so much everyone, saved me a fortune!0

if its the 1905cc diesel engine then a new sump is only about 50 quid plus vat.0
