Uninsured Losses

On Monday night my husband and I were driving down the M6 when our car was hit from behind, spun round and hit again along the passenger side then spun off into roadworks by a huge articulated lorry fully loaded up with steel. It was driven by a Romanian driver.
Thankfully there were no injuries other than minor whiplash for me (passenger seat) and both myself and my husband ending up very scared indeed.
Insurance claim has now been started, the car is awaiting assessment but is almost certainly a write off, and we are awaiting a call tonight from the insurers solicitors ref uninsured losses.
Now we have no injuries (have to say we are both sickened by the amount of people who have asked us why we aren't wearing collars to help us inflate personal injury payouts) and we know that we can claim for the policy excess of £200, but I have a couple of other questions about what constitutes an uninsured loss I hope someone can help with.
Finally, once we have spoken to the solicitor ref what uninsured losses we wish to claim is that it written in stone or if anything else came up that we haven't yet thought of could it be added later? And how long does it usually take for uninsured losses to be paid out, does the fact that the driver was from Romania make a difference?
Thanks for any help.

- we had just filled the petrol tank with £40 of petrol - can we claim for this?
- we have a short camping holiday booked in 2 weeks time and are unlikely to be able to replace the car by then. Can we claim for the money we will lose for not being able to go (camp site had to be paid in advance - we are talking £60 for camp site) Relatives have offered us the use of one of their cars if we insure it just for the holiday - would this be covered if we chose to take them up on it or if this turned out not to be viable would the cost of a hire car for the duration of the holiday be covered?
- My husband hasn't lost any work time but I lost one days wages to go to the doctor due to the accident - can I claim for this?

People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

An uninsured loss is anything that you are out of pocket for due to the accident.
This can be down to phone calls made on a mobile phone, prescriptions, holiday costs, hire car costs, personal injury costs etc.
I am glad you are both ok a similar thing happened to me and my OH last year and we both walked away ok. The whiplash came on a week later so don't be surprised if it doesn't come out.
You would be best off speaking to your insurance company who can put you through to the legal protection people (if you have it on your policy) or advise you what to do if you don't.
Make sure you get receipts for everything you have to pay out or lose ie cost of holiday so you can claim it back.:)0
