As it says im taking the plunge and getting married next year. Myself and the dearest wife to be are looking to go on safari for honeymoon. We have looked about and are edging towards going with Virgin on their 'taste of kenya' tour then head of to Zanzibar after for a few days relaxing on the beach. Has anyone ever done this tour or can recommend any other safari's?? We will be looking to go late April 2011Thanks!

I have done a safari (although not with a tour) and highly recommend you try get to masai mara park. It has everything and is one of if not the best.
It is a nice drive from Nairobi past Lake Victoria where you can then go on to Mombasa!0 -
Did you go to Mombasa? We are trying to decide between Mombasa or Zanzibar?0

Mombasa is brilliant, loved it stayed at the following hotel serena beach, if you google it you will see how amazing it is. I tried posting link but am not allowed
Do some research and sure you will agree it speaks for itself. There is plenty to do there as well0 -
Hi Cavan 28. We have been to Kenya 3 times now and safari'd every time. The last 2 times we stayed at Heritage camps and we were really very pleased with them.
For our last visit, we did what we considered to be the "ultimate" safari (within our budget). The Heritage Flying Safari - 2 days in each of 3 different parks, all great in their own way (Samburu, Great Rift Valley to incldue trips to Lake Nakurru and Lake Navasha and finally the Masai Mara). We booked this through Virgin. We specifically wanted a flying safari as we didn't want to waste days travelling between parks. We then added on 6 days at a beach hotel before flying home.
We have stayed just north of Mombasa twice. Very nice, but for a honeymoon i'd probably recommend either Zanzibar or Lamu as I think it would be just a little more special.:)0 -
Thanks for the replies guys all very helpful! I cant wait now! Swivelingmonk - was that a package deal you did through virgin or was it a 'custom' one you made yourself?0

The 6 day Heritage Flying safari (includes flights from UK) is one of their standard packages - you can then add extras which is where we added the 6 days at a beach hotel and additional flights to/from Mombasa. Because of the extras, you cannot book online and get the online discounts.
I got Virgin to price this on the phone then went into a number of travel agents asking them to discount it.
We went with friends so there were 4 adults, the total cost was nearly £10k but we did get it discounted by nearly £800 after playing 3 TA's off against each other.
Brilliant holiday - worth every penny! :T0
