3 months to 18 months or longer depending on the nature of the complaint and how in depth it is.

    Hi worldsnooker147 hope your well.

I do know the FOS are trying to work through complaints quicker than usual, but its difficult to give a timescale.

What normally happens now, as you received your acknowlegement letter, you will be put on a queing system for an adjudicator, but between this time, they normally request for further information from the other party, and in some cases it can actually be resolved at this stage, so this will then be removed from the queing system, just as long as your happy with the result.

However, if not resolved at this stage, then the next step is the adjudicator.
This may take some time, but I am aware they are taking on new staff regularly to try to keep up with the demands of the complaints.

If resolved with the adjudicator, for example then that can take say about 6-8 weeks, this will also depend if the other party agree with the adjudicators decision or not, so if they ignore or do not agree with the adjudicators decision, then your case will then be moved on to the ombudsman himself.
This should not take as long as the waiting time at the start, but if it does go this far, then your entitled to further redress on too for the distress and inconvenience caused by the other party.

So for example, a timescale can be from the adjudicator's stage, as little as 8 weeks, but could go on for 18 months, but hopefully not.

I will mention though, cos not everyone are aware:
If your struggling and in financial hardship, do let them know and ask for fast tracking.
For example, mortgage arrears or threat of repossession etc.

Good luck, please keep us posted.;)

Yep, a good 18 months for a "usual" case. FOS are receiving more complaints now than this time last year as the awareness is growning of misselling.

I sent my query to FOS in May2009 and case completed today. So 18 months isn't far off the mark.

I sent my Egg complaint in Mar 2009, resolved and refunded in May 2010. 2 RBS complaints sent in Feb 2009, now with RBS waiting for refund in next week or two. Yay!! These 3 were for loan PPI. RBS credit card PPI only took 3 mths. Also, some adjudicators are very slow and disorganised, others are extremely efficient and fast!

    Good luck!
  • hey everyone im back,

i know its been a while since my last update...unfortunately iv not had any further change or update since my last post.much to my despair!!!!

my last post was from my adjudicator asking for a copy of my ex partners signature on 1st nov 2010, i emailed him to let him know it had been sent but iv heard nothing back from him to this day

since then i emailed the adjudicator asking for an update on my case, got a reply the day after on 2nd nov 2010, saying the case had been passed to him for investigation and he was in the process of obtaining more info from HSBC

i do know they are waiting on a court decision or something along those lines but im really frustrated now that ive had no contact of any sort in over 3 months:(

can anyone advice me on whats going on

my claim started in april 2010

    cheers paul

    Hi Paul

I would email them again just to ease your mind.

I know they may be taking longer than normal, even though it can still take some time anyway unfortunately, as the FOS are currently dealing with even higher volumes of complaints since the Judicial Review issue where more and more are taking their complaints to them.

So send them another email just for an update, and hope you hear some good news very soon, fingers crossed.;)

Hiya, no worries, this happens a lot, so what will happen now (mainly the ombudsman agree with the adjudicators decision, well most of the time anyway), the ombudsman will review your case as standard procedure, and if they agree, the bank must comply.:)
Good luck and glad you know where you are at present.;)
