Single Mum with 17yo Son, only getting JSA

Please help,
First time poster, long time lurker. Pleased to make your acquaintances!!
My aunty has recently lost her job, and has started claiming benefits.
I am sure she is not getting her full entitlement.
She gets her mortgage interest paid, and JSA plus £20 child benefit.
She had a letter from the Council regarding CTB, and that had a higher figure of "what the law says you need to live on" - but JCP are being very unhelpful as to what else she can claim.
I have read through various sticky's and what not, but cannot find the answer to my question.
I mean she is expected to feed and cloth herself and her 17yo son (in FT Education) on £85 per week - and unsurprisingly she is struggling.
Is she eligible for anything else?
Thanks in advance for any help

Hi there, It sounds about right to be, ive got a friend in a very similar situation. maybe she should be entitled to council tax benefit also. Her son should be entitled to the full £30 per week Ema allowance though, which he could perhaps pay towards his own clothing? or cough up a tenner per week towards the food? it not an awful lot to ask, he is a very nearly grown man, and will help teach him responsibility a bit? just an idea, it is what i would doWith love, POSR

Very swift responses. Thanks very much.Doesn't the son get EMA?
Yes, he does get EMA for the weeks he is in college, so obviously he isn't receiving it currently due to the summer.Does she not get Child Tax Credits?
Nope, she has never claimed anything like that. She has ALWAYS worked. Could she be entitled to this? She was prev earning approx £25k a year, but didn't claim any tax credits, and I doubt she would have been eligible - but I may be wrong.

He's a good lad and looks after his Mum, and he does his own little bits and buys some of his own clothes.
Is she eligible for CTC?
Thanks again
