Why was I never told about this £15 Buffer? And why is not in any leaflet or on the website? :mad:Fiddlestick wrote: »You took the money out inbetween the authorisation being given and ASDA requesting payment.
This is exactly how the system is supposed to work - the authorisation is your bank telling ASDA "yeah no worries, we are good for that. You can take it when you do your payment processing".
But on a Basic Bank Account, with no credit facility and designed for poor credit customers that is NOT credit checked, do you not see the problem with a 2 working day delay?iblametheparents wrote: »Barclays WOULD have taken the Asda transaction off your available balance straight away. The reason the balance wasn't showing £16.xx and why you were able to withdraw I have already explained above.
So basically, despite it saying that the Barclays Cash Card account has NO OVERDRAFT, there actually is a £15 overdraft buffer so in the future I need to add a possible £15 on the end of my transactions!!!!!!!
Although this buffer does NOT display when my account balance is at £0. It does NOT show £15 available credit, Balance £0. So it is obviously only used in in debit card transactions.
Thanks for telling me about this guys because nobody from Barclays ever has. :T

I don't know why you're getting so annoyed about it! It's not displayed because it isn't an overdraft, it's an emergency buffer. It's not just used for debit card transactions, read again what I wrote.
Also, overdrafts sometimes aren't included in the available balance anyway, if someone who has a normal account with a £500 overdraft limit and they are £250 in credit the available credit would still show as £250.0

Thanks to Iblameitontheparents for the usefull information that has cleared this issue up for me. I think that before people start moaning about their banks they should first understand how their own accounts actually work. I found it funny that someone did not realise that an overdraft does not show up as an account balance, not only that not realising that a buffer is not an overdraft. Clearly they have never had an overdraught before.iblametheparents wrote: »I don't know why you're getting so annoyed about it! I have just been on the phone to online banking to clear this issue up and it has been confirmed to me that it does exist, but there has to be funds of at least £5 in the account for it to become active!! There you have it,its only there to help one with a small payment discrepancy.
Thanks again for the patience with incompetants iblameitontheparents:T0
