Car registered in Uk in 2000, and is a 2000 model.

Does she need to display in both MPH and KPH? Been through loadds of MOT's in UK, though 1st in NI- although she passed we were told she needs to display both- currently displays MPH only.

Very strange, you don't need a working speedo for the MOT in England so this will probably be why it passed over here.

I don't know about NI though.

Put some little stickers over it with the kph on.

She reads in MPH, has been converted... Sorry maybe posted garbled...

Was told she needs KPH also to meet UK requirements... Haven't been told that one before. Just on quickly, so trying to google when I can.

Although rules in NI may be different to rest of UK as there is a separate licencing authority there.

Thanks for the quick replies. Did find it, is fairly unique to NI. Will have to change it sometime! Does need to dual-read over here.

Various companies make speedo faces for imports that are direct replacements, and these are marked in both MPH and KPH.

From the 1986 construction and use regulations:
35.-(1) ..., every motor vehicle shall be fitted with a speedomoter which, if the vehicle is first used on or after 1st April 1984, shall be capable of indicating speed in both miles per hour and kilometres per hour, either simultaneously or, by the operation of a switch, separately.
So analogue speedos need to show both mph and kph, whereas digital speedos may show only one providing the display can toggle between the mph and kph at the push of a button.
