Hi,my Vaio is getting on now but has been fantastic to use but i have a problem a fan/fans is constantly on.I have read posts on here but unsure what to do next.I have run SpeedFan 4.41 and here are results below, sorry not sure how to do screenshot.
I am in no way tech minded but am trying to have a go as i cant really afford to get anyone in to fix at minute, also the problem with this model is you cant really get into anything to clean it, as screen is attached to computer.
any help/advice would be very welcome

I have seen problems on many PCs where the CPU fan is running up at a high speed. Usually this is caused by two things:
1. A process or processes is / are running on the machine which is making the CPU work hard. You can find this out by running task manager in windows or "top" in linux
2. The CPU fan exhaust / inlet is blocked with an obstruction or dust.
For what its worth I have a Dell E6400 laptop which is just over a year old. It was running the fan nearly all the time and turned out just to be dust in the fan outlet. I took the bottom cover off carefully and cleaned it out with a vaccuum cleaner. I also have an old Dell Optiplex PC which had the same problem, runs like a dream now.
If you PC is old its more likely to need a clean of the fan ports and the CPU heatsink if anything. Googling up how to dismantle your CPU fan should find you some good info.0 -
Hi rythmnsoup, thanks for reply in Taskbar/applications i have Firefox running Windows live messenger then 3 Drag`n Drop CD+DVD-F applications running i dont know why them 3 are running, to be honest, but i dare not end anything as i am unsure.
In Taskbar/processes the list is endless but under CPU column Firefox is using a bit,but WinXPDisableZero.. is flashing mainly in 90s.
i honestly dont know whats relevant or not so dont want to end any of them,as for cleaning it i am sure there will be dust in there but how it is built,i have had a go at taking apart but no chance.
thanks if anybody cold advise me on taskbar would be great0 -
In windows taskmanager you can select the process tab and click on the CPU column title to sort by CPU useage, click twice to sort by highest useage first. Im not a windows user, so not sure which processes would be good or not.0

Hi thanks, done that, there are only a few that are registering that are doing anything but i am not sure what to do with them do not want to crash comp or worse.Wish i could get into computer itself to properly clean it,its all guess work for me at this point.thanks0

sorted fan noise, did some research on google about CPU and found out that Belkin wireless card was the main culprit.
SppedFan now reporting 2 running at 43% and 1 at 35% as to 100% but tempeture is showing 54C on two and 50C on another which has a tick against.
Is the temp ok and anybody know how to use SpeedFan properly, please
Also
3 Drag`n Drop CD+DVD-F applications were running in Task Manger and i ended process trying to solve inital problem.Have i made a mistake please, will this affect other aspects?
On the upside its like heaven with the door shut now that noise has stopped!
but want to make sure i am doing this right so any advice would be great, thank you0 -
54C and 50C seems a bit hot, im guessing this is on each CPU core? Normally my laptop here runs about 30-35C, but if your fans are quiet and your performance seems ok and nothing is thrashing the CPU in task manager you should be ok. You could pop the cover off though and check the fan inlet / outlets just to make sure they arent blocked, it wont hurt.0
