Hi there
I'm due to sit CF5 in two months but I havent done any studying yet, its also been years since I did CF1-4.
Do you think this is enough time to prepare and pass? My job will depend on it so im really worried.
Thanks
Ross

2 month is fine if you can allocate 100-200 hours in that period. (depends on your obtained knowledge and retained knowledge since doing the rest). My job will depend on it so im really worried.
What job is that? Most require you to sit these old certificate exams within a relatively short period. To go a couple of years is unusual.
Will you need to sit the level 4 exams as well?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Ive also got CF5 in October after having just finished CF 1-4 recently. This one seems a lot harder than the previous exams. I have the coursebook for CF5 but what other source is best for revision??.0

I feel sorry for those just finishing the CF exams. Now they have the R0x exams to look forward to. Whereas those starting out now only have to do the R0x exams.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. You're a moto gp fan then?
I was in a similar position as you, i.e. I had done CF1-4 several years ago, and then I decided to tackle CF5. The CF5 exam assumes you have a good technical knowledge of CF1-4.
I got round this problem by refreshing my memory with the Cii revision summary booklets, which are handy pocket-sized summaries that outline the key points in an easy-to-follow format. Now, that I've passed CF5 I could sell these onto you at a discount if you're interested? The RRP is approx £20 each. These are based on the 09/10 tax year though...
In my opinion, out of these units, CF2 (Investments & savings) is probably the most important to know really well. Since one of the two questions in the CF5 paper asks you to construct an investment portfolio.
Having said that it is of course also important to know about various protection products available (CF3) and also various pension types, and the max allowable pension contribution limits etc etc (CF4).
I've read other people's posts on this forum saying that you only need to read over CF5 once or twice to absorb the key points, and I would be inclined to agree with this.
The only other thing I would suggest is to attempt as many past papers as possible, since you can get a feel for what the examiners are after - I found the model answers to be really useful, i.e. the examiner's narrative of the areas where candidates were doing well and not so well.
There are 3 free exam CF5 papers on the cii web-site. They're not easy to find, but if you phone/e-mail the cii customer service I'm sure they could send you these, or I could e-mail them over to you if you want?
Hope the above helps, and if you're interested in buying the study guides from me, send me a private message, and we can work something out
Good luck with the exam
