Nationwide credit card Activation

Good morning all,

My OH has just got a Nationwide credit card through, but there doesnt seem to be a need to activate it. Is this correct?

With all cards I have ever had with card companies there has always been a sticker on it or with the paperwork to say "call now to activate".

Is Nationwide different? It just seems a bit trusting that no one will steal the envelope with card and PIN or it wont accidently get delivered to the wrong address and someone not have to go through any security before using it.

Thanks

Is it a new card or reissue/replacement? Most reissues don't need activating, but most new cards do.
  • Its a brand new card, first one she has ever had.
  • Hmmm Strange indeed  From the Nationwide website:

    Activate Card
All new Visa debit and credit cards must be activated before they can be used for the first time.

.......Has she tried to use it yet?

  • .......Has she tried to use it yet?

No she hasnt had the pin arrived.

She said on the letter its just the card and says "we hope you enjoy using your card, the PIN is on its way".
  • Was there any sticker on the signature strip?

This is a bit weird but maybe its their new Policy. I suppose maybe because it hers own bank (building society) and being sent to her home account address they don't need any further security.

Maybe worth her calling them up to double-check however. Otherwise if the card gets declined in Sainsburys she may not be happy :o
  • No it didnt have a sticker on it, thats what I asked her. She does bank with them. I just found it weird. She called them about the PIN and had to go through a security check, but this was only because she chose to ring them to chase up her PIN, not to activate it, so we will see tomorrow when she uses it, otherwise mine will have to come out my wallet :(

If it doesn't have a sticker on it then it doesn't need activating.

I got my first credit card with them in May this year and it was the same for me.

It can be used straight away :)
