Car Servicing!

Did I read somewhere you no longer have to use the dealer the car came from for a service?
We have a new Skoda due its first service next month, but Skoda garage is a long way away. We live too far away for them to pick it up. A free service they told us we would have when we brought it!
Can we just take it into another dealer without messing the warranty up?

Correct. As long as the work is carried out to the correct manufacturer's schedule, and uses genuine parts, it won't invalidate your warranty :

You must make sure you keep all receipts and paperwork in case you ever do need to make a warranty claim.

You don't need to take it to another dealer - they'll still charge a fair bit on labour. Independent garages can do this for you now too. Make sure that they are conforming to "Manufacturers Service Schedule" and using Manufacturer approved parts.

Also opens up the market to the online operators - although note that a "full service" is not always a manufacturers service schedule.
Online guys like NSN and Blackcircles offer a full manufacturer service - but you need to call up for a price.

Now if the manufacturer were to believe no OEM paqrts were used then they could refuse any warranty claim.

You will also miss out on any updates for the car.

You pays your money and takes a chance.

    +1

And although the customer 'pays' for OE parts, some less scrupulous garages put their own filters on it, hoping no-one will notice and they can make more money out of you. We've seen it here before and had to reject a warranty claim because an aftermarket oil filter failed after the customer had paid for an OE service at his local garage but not checked it.

Surely in that case you would have a cast-iron claim against the garage ? If you've got a receipt stating that OEM parts were used, when in fact they weren't, surely Trading Standards would have something to say about it ?

It went back to the servicing garage, but they had receipts for OE parts on that day, so the ball was back in the customers court who'd sworn that no-one had touched the car other than that garage. Their word against the customers.
