  • You dont need any qualifications to open such a business but I would say that if you have no experience of this type of enterprise, you do need to research it very thoroughly and draw up a robust business plan.
  • Just do all your research etc and check everything from H&h certificates etc etc.

No qualifications required apart from a 1 day basic food hygiene certificate.

A minimum of 1 year each working in a cafe environment is invaluable though, especially for one of the chains that does things by the book. For example becoming a good barista takes months, you might as well get paid while you train!

Managing a small business before also really helps...you won't believe how many things you have to pay for, how wildly prices vary between suppliers and how many scams there are. Again, learn this whilst getting paid if you can :)

I appreciate small business management positions don't pop up very often but please do some cafe work first.

In my town this seems to be a saturated market, one road has about 30 takeaways/restaurants, there are 2 Subways on the same street, another shortish street has a Costa, Don Miller, Greggs plus 3 cafes with outdoor seating.

So if you are definite that this is the type of business you want to open I would advise checking out your intended location very carefully.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Not only is there a large number of such establishments in our area, but they seem to change at regular intervals as well! "Wasn't Fred's sandwich bar here? Oh look, there's a new one there where Sally's Sandwiches used to be. Haven't seen that one before, like the look of their cakes." And so on ...

  • How do you make a small fortune from running a food outlet?

You start with a large one.
