DVLA unlicensed vehicle fine x2
Hi all
Basically I SORN'd my old car awaiting to sell it. It was gone one day when i got home from work - DVLA had impounded it for no tax I leaned after call to the police. I mistakingly thought our cul-de-sac was private land. In hindsight stupid I know.
Anyway I taxed the car paid £200 to get the car out and a refunded £160 surety fee.
Yesterday, some 2 weeks after i receive 2 letters on the doormat from DVLA both for £60 fines for unlicences vehicle (I was expecting 1 but not 2). Identical letter, same offence name, even identical ref numbers, but the date of offence is 4 days apart. The car never moved between these dates in fact it never moved for 3 weeks before it was taken away and impounded.
My question is how exactly can this be 2 seperate offcences? And how is it fair I wasnt even informed of the 1st offence (no ticket on car, no letter through door, nothing) thus not giving me any opportunity to respond before coming back 4 days later and doing the same again. Why they didn't just tow it the first time is beyond me?!? That would of saved me £60 am I right? maybe thats why they didn't? or am i being harsh on them?
Cheers

Thanks for you reply and good luck wish.
As I said the letter is identical apart from the date and time of offence - i just dont see how the can classify them as 2 entriely seperate offences. I'll ring them later today but I'm not hopeful after reading some other threads.
Why they didn't impound it on the 1st occession is really annoying.0 -

You could have basically received a fine for every single day the car was on the road. If they'd have towed it, you'd have had a £150 removal fee plus storage at £12 per day to pay as well.0 -
In my less responsible days I was handed 10 sumons in 1 day. Old motor bike scrambler that we used to take 50yds up the cul-de-sac then out over the fields got reported twice evidentally
No L plates...............Twice
No insurance.............Twice
No tax.....................Twice
Faling to display tax...Twice and finally
Excessive noise.........Twice
+ back duty on the tax.
So yes you can done as many times as it is reported or spotted.:oI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I did have to pay removal fee - Thats the £200 I metioned in my initial post. I just dont see how its a different offence and I dont understand why they didn't tow it the first time. Instead they vistited again and towed it. Im left with removal fees plus 2 fines for both visits. Am I only one who thinks this is harsh?0 -
^^ Blame the person who reported you

Apparently it was done by scanner vehicle in the area. Thought had crossed my mind I may have upset the neighbours.0
