Unfair charges by Swift Fire & Security

Hello all. Can someone please advise me regarding an issue with above mentioned company. Last year, I accidentally cut through a cable which was going from the control box to the outside alarm box. I rang the company straight away, who sent an engineer the following day. The so called experienced engineer took 2 hours and 20 minutes to tell us what'd happened. Company sent me an invoice for 210 pounds for the call out, and a further 250 pounds, should I want the system repaired. Obviously I'm disputing this, but has anyone got any suggestions. Disputing the call out, the charge for fixing or what? On what grounds are you disputing it?

Have you checked your contract to see what it says about call out charges etc?

As above is there anything in your contract (if there is one) regarding charges?

If not did they mention charges/hourly rate before hand?

If not you may have a case on the hourly rates but i doubt it will be easy.

I would guess there is travelling time + 2.5 hours labour involved so it's about the going rate.

I guess if they had sent a "real" expreienced engineer instead of a "so called" one he might have taken one look at you and thought "this knob-end has hacked through the cable" and saved you a few bob. Otherwise it involves a time consuming process of elimination.
