I'm trying to decide on a car stereo which is decent but not too expensive. I want to be able to attach an mp3 player to it.
Not sure what to buy, any recommendations?

They sometimes pop up now and again in Aldi/Lidl for about £50.
Something along these lines? http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/10619.html

I had this in my old car;

Not sure if that's your idea of cheap, but it's a great USB unit and you can control your iPod/iPhone with it. Also comes with a remote which i always found handy.0 -
I got a brand new Tevion (Aldi/Lidl) one for the wife's car from an E.Bay seller for £25 recently.
Works brilliantly.

I have this one, I think it was on offer for a tenner cheaper when I got it. I've been perfectly happy with it.0

Have read a few reviews on this stereo & it has mixed opinions. What mp3 player do you use with it?0 -
You'll get a few different options when it comes to playing MP3's on a car stereo directly from an MP3 player. You can:
- Use one with a USB socket, plug MP3 player into stereo which if the player charges off USB should also charge it - the MP3 player needs to support mass storage (i.e. be readable as a memory drive on a PC, which nearly all of them do anyway).
- Use a memory stick instead of an MP3 player on a USB capable unit, (you can also use hard drives but the players needed to play these well would cost more) - means no music on the go.
- There are also "Ipod" stereos available which come with a special adapter to plug in an ipod (my GF has one but doesn't have an Ipod, lol).
- You could burn MP3's to CD and play off that (as MP3's are compressed you can get a good amount of cd's worth on to one cd).
- You could plug an MP3 player in via auxiliary input, you would select the songs via the MP3 player itself but the device would not charge at the same time - as many aftermarket stereos have one of these inputs this is the cheapest option, or another option still is the plug in FM transmitter things which would work with your current stereo. The only downside is handling the MP3 player could probably net you a fine for using a mobile phone.

I'm trying to avoid carrying cds, which is one of the reasons I was thinking of an mp3 player. Also, can still use mp3 player when walking about0

Netto have a Blaupunkt on offer today for £49.99 with all you need.
Limited stocks.;)0 -
And Blaupunkt is a top brand too. Only downside is it is not a USB capable model (but does have an aux-in).0
