Jobseeking for a 45+ year old, with no qualifications

Hi All,
Looking for advice on job seeking for someone I know.
Currently they work in a warehouse, earning just slightly more than the minimum wage. Same job day in day out, long shifts - weekends, nights etc.
Currently this person is fed up of this same job, and is also struggling a little with money like most people.
Can anyone recommend any jobs which he could move upto or change to, and preferably earn a bit more money.
Preferably without any upfront training costs etc due to money being tight.
Thanks;)

Difficult it is so hard out there even people with loads of qualifications are having to take minimum wage jobs and often not even on full time hours. I think your friend should look into getting a literacy and numeracy qualification and maybe try talking to nextstep"It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0

There's not much point people suggesting jobs without knowing what's available in your area. Does he apply for jobs he sees advertised?0

Tell him to aim higher, go self employed how about a driving instructor, broaden his job range when you say no formal qualifications I take you mean he has got a few basic cse's not that he is illiterate .If that is the case loads of different things he can do job wise.SHAME PEOPLE ARE SUGGESTING LOW PAID JOBS what's the point in changing from one to another apart from giving you a change for a few weeks.0

I often think that you dont need qualifications to earn better than minimum wage, i think as with everything is having a confident and positive attitude. Just try to get your mate to ask if there is any chance of progression within the company he works for, or just keep looking whilst still in work. Better to have a job you hate rather than claiming JSA.0

Theres no need to shout, I was only making suggestions, FYI delivery drivers can earn quite a good wage and get with the right company and you can possibly take courses for HGV forklift truck etc. I am being realistic at the end of the day, its not easy getting a well paid job without qualifications in this day and age. I know as I am struggling too, sometimes we have to start at the bottom and work our way up.grocery challenge Sept 2012 £21/£3990 -

Hes being looking, and ive had a look for him but to be honest there isnt anything in the area which weve found that he could do. Anything else is too far and usually the same wage - so effectively a pay drop.FOURCANDLES wrote: »Tell him to aim higher, go self employed how about a driving instructor, broaden his job range when you say no formal qualifications I take you mean he has got a few basic cse's not that he is illiterate .If that is the case loads of different things he can do job wise.SHAME PEOPLE ARE SUGGESTING LOW PAID JOBS what's the point in changing from one to another apart from giving you a change for a few weeks.
I was looking at changing my career myself and looked into becoming a driving instructor. But when i did the figures I found id need to work 50% more hours than i do currently to make the same money. Was also advised on here that it wasnt worthwhile going into that career at the minute do to huge amounts of instructors everywhere undercutting everyone - so lack of work. but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Yes hes got basic Cse'sOutdoorlass wrote: »Does your pal have a driving licence? What about applying for delivery drivier jobs, at least they will be out and about. Or a Post Man?
Hes got a driving license yes, might look into the driving jobs, although dont know how many of these jobs are permanent full time employed?
he has got a forklift license which i forgot to mention, but all these jobs pay the same as current job and almost always temp/contract jobs. Would need to be something permanent/secure if poss0 -
Can he look to progress in the type of job he is doing now? Warehouse supervisor or manager or some sort of logistics co-ordinator? Lots of people work their way up a career path rather than get there by qualifications.0

Unless he's prepared to move, job suggestions won't help if there are no jobs for him to apply for.0
