Bank Account for 16 year old

Hi
my daughter has got herself a part time job which i am delighted with therefore needing a bank account.
she already has a saver account with the halifax since birth but it seemed really difficult even to get an appointment to see an advisor at a local branch to sort out all the tax etc.
Anyone had experience of a good account for a teenager at present with a cash card etc.
thanks

im 16 and I have accounts with ltsb, hsbc, halifax, rbs and natwest (going to close natwest and rbs-not due to any problems just have opened hsbc and ltsb a few months ago and only need 3 accounts, not 5). I would recommend all 5 of the banks mentioned. they all come with visa debits (halifax comes with visa electron). childrens accounts are all roughly similar so its best to be with a local bank.0

I've been looking for my 16 year old and think I will suggest Nationwide to her:- Online banking, cashpoint card, tinsy wincy bit of interest and she can apply online too. As she has an ISA with them, providing ID shouldn't be necessary, and my local branch staff are very pleasant which counts for a lot !
edit: LTSB under 19 account pays 2.5%interest and gives a debit card so that may be better, but have to apply in branch.0 -

HSBC are brilliant to me, only had to fill in a form and a telephone call for online banking, I've got both a normal account and a savings account. Comes with a debit card. Can't speak highly enough of them.
Used to be with Lloyds TSB but found them pretty poor."We are the change that we seek."0 -
why would you need an advisor to sort out tax? Just fill in a R85 form and take it into the branch.0

Perhaps the first thing for her to learn is that advisors are there primarily to sell not advise. A quick lesson that will save her a fortune in life.0

+1 for HSBC. I had an HSBC account when 16-19 and it was absolutely superb. I'd had a Barclays and Natwest account during those early years, too, but their service paled in comparison to HSBC.
HSBC also upgraded it to a full adult current account with overdraft and cheque guarantee card when I turned 18, too, which Barclays and Natwest don't allow (would've had to be new accounts).Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Why close the nat west and rbs accounts ?, it costs them money to open the accounts you know :mad:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
at 16 you can apply for a current account with most banks (obviously without an overdraft as at 16 you are too young to have a credit facility) and the tax is simply a case of completing an R85 form which is so simple to complete)!0
