PPI for mail order/store account

Heard a lot about this ppi, mis-sold policies etc but only realised today when I received my monthly statement from Next Directory that I have a "payment protection" charge that I have not really taken any notice of before. Tend to use the account regularly, purchase clothes then pay off balance over next couple of months but I have been a customer since March 1992 as I have never talked to them about this charge, assume it has appeared every month I have a debit balance with them for 18 years!!! Can I claim it back?

Hi and welcome.
Do you still have the paperwork or any of the paperwork?
I would give it a go at least.
You seem to have a reason to do so.
To make the reclaim, you just complete the FOS questionnaire (these were recently issued by the financial ombudsman service) FOS and in replacement of the first template letter.
Keep a copy in case you need to refer to it later on.
They have 8 weeks to respond and sometimes they will write to ask for more time.
You will find the FOS questionnaire on link below, further down the page as stage one.

My account has been online now for at least 12 months so I can print off statements for that period. Is the onus on me to provide the paperwork or them if I ask for it. There will be reams of statements but assume I can only go back so far? Also as it is a catalogue/store account the balance throughout the year varies so much but for the last four or five years I have made a payment to them pretty much every month.0

Hiya
Yes that would be a good idea to do that if you want to, print off what you can.
You do not have to provide anything to them, but it helps to have something on the account to help support your case, but if you do require further info - maybe a Subject access Request (SAR) would be useful.
They have 40 calendar days to comply and they should send all they hold on you going back at least the last 6 years, they may even send info going back from earlier years if they still hold them on the system or microfiche.
There is a SAR template letter on link below, you have to enclose a payment of £10 cheque or postal order for this request.

You actually pursue the ones who set up the policy.
If you want to send them anything, only do so in copies.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0
