Curtain size help please

I need to purchase some new curtains for new windows which have been installed. The opening is 8ft and I'm not sure what size to get? I plan to purchase tab-top curtains and dont require a great deal of gathering but I'm not very good at this sort of thing.

Also on the curtain packs sizes, they list the size (ie 46 x 72) is the size of each curtain?

Thank you :D

Jenny we need to know the length that you want your curtains to be. So measure from the curtain track down to whatever length you want... could be just below the window sill or all the way to the floor depending on your preference..... and also do you want the curtains to hang to the side of the window ie: onto the wall , when they are pulled back?

I usually double the width measurement to give the correct width with some gather..... in the measurements you have given 46 is the width and 72 the depth.... that size would fit a narrowish tall window certainly not wide enough for your 8ft spread but you are right in saying that is the size of each curtain in the pack... you would probabely need 4 of this size to cover an 8ft spread...

I would like them full length to the floor and yes, would like them to hang to the side of the wall. If you say I need to double the width of each curtain, does that mean that each curtain need to be 8ft each?

Sorry, the 46 x 72 remark was just an example - you can see I dont buy curtains very often! :o

    right, 8ft = 243cm

Therefore if each curtain is x 1.5, should it measure 365cm?
And if each curtains is x 2, should it measure 486cm?

I have similar sized window and have 90" x 90" curtains up.
  • If as you say you are putting up tabtops and dont need a great deal or gathering then you will get away with much smaller curtains than a pair being 8ft wide each curtain. I always buy curtains a size narrower than the window width as I don't like too much gather, it is cheaper this way aswell. 90"x90" will be more than big enough. There is nothing worse than tabtops where you can't actually see the tabs due to there being far too many of them! Good luck!

oh, so you think 90" would be enough? I was getting a bit worried as I couldn't find anything on-line bigger than 90"!

    would 66" be too tight?
