Berne is the most quaint and beautiful capital city I've been to.0

Lucerne would be my choice. Lake steamers plus mountain railways up Rigi and Pilatus mountains. The transport museum is fun if the weather is bad.0

Looking to do zurich to berne and then form berne go to interlaken and maybe geneva,is it worth getting an inter rail pass as i would like to see some of the mountains
thanks0 -
if you are going to interlaken then go on to visit the eiger noth face.you can take a train up through the mountain to the jungfrau joch, absolutely brilliant.buy a swiss rail pass to get unlimited travel and up to fifty per cent discount on certain mountain railways and chair lifts.0

Definitely do the Interlaken and Jungfraujoch thing if you can. We stayed in Bern last year and it was wonderful. You get the Swiss pass which does all the regular trains. Once you get into the Bernese Oberland region there are some gorgeous journeys from Interlaken to Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen. From either of those go to Kleine Scheidegg and there you transfer to the Jungfraujoch train. That costs extra and isnt cheap but a) is worth every penny and b) you get 20 or 25% discount if you have a Swiss pass. The Swiss pass also lets you use some cable cars inclusive, and gives you discount on others.
Swiss pass also gives you travel on buses and boats - we did a cruise of Lake Thun - and entry to many museums.
Cant speak for Zurich as a base but Bern was brilliant. I'm slightly biased as I was whisked off there last year for a surprise trip and propsed to at the top of Jungfrau
