Hi folks,
In our newly published Student Accounts 2010/11 guide, RBS Student Account is one of our new top picks.
It offers 0% overdrafts tiered in the first year from £500 to £1,000 and then up to £1,250 in year two and £1,500 in year three, and we're after feedback from people who have applied this year about what overdraft limit you are given to start with, and also whether this was upped if you requested more.
Thanks for all help in advance

All new student accounts should only get a £500 overdraft limit to begin with
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion

In Scotland the RBS account gives a three year railcard. RBS will only renew the railcard if you use the account frequently (min. one credit every three months and three debits per month during term time).
Here's the facts, the railcard can only be used after 10.00 am in the morning, so this is not much use to a student if they have any classes starting at 10am or before, which my son has, so its not the good deal it appears to be.
I contacted RBS before my son confirmed usage of the student account, I was advised that the card could be used at all times during the day but when my son tried to use the card, the rail company told him it was for use after 10.30am.
I called the rail company and they confirmed that this was the case with different rail routes operating usage at different times.
In fairness to RBS they have offered to allow my son to cancel the account if he finds a better account elsewhere and once my son calls and registers an issue, they will raise awareness of the validity period of the railcard as a training point.
The Rail company's should take note - What use is a railcard to a student if he can't use it to make his attendance for classes starting early in the morning.
So beware!!!! All that glitters is not a gold!0
