Why won't this site load on my PC?

Options
Trying to access my Which? account. I can load the homepage but anything I click on after that just hangs and eventually says the connection was closed by remote server.

The thing is, my boyfriend's computer is on the same network and he can access it fine.

I've tried three different browsers and it doesn't work, and it's been like it for 3 days. I'm not having trouble with any other sites.

Why can my boyfriend's computer load it and I can't???

Three browsers sharing cache I think not. Perhaps you could expand on "hanging" and it is possible but not likely that Which only allows 1 user at a time on the ip address you share. It could be your "firewall/anti virus"

also sometimes a flash or java update might help
  • Hi, I've updated my java version and cleared my cookies but it still doesn't work. There are no other computers in the house on the Which website right now.

When I say hanging, Opera says "sending request to which.co.uk" and stays like that for 1m45s then says Connection closed by remote server. Firefox says "waiting for which.co.uk" for about 30 seconds then says Connection interrupted, the document contains no data. Internet Explorer says "opening <page name>" for about 20 seconds then says Server not found, page cannot be displayed.

We have standard Windows firewall and no anti-virus.
  • Am i reading this right you have no anti-virus installed.

Try flushing the DNS cache as described here - http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/233/clear_windows_dns_cache/

If you have no anti-virus I'd forget about your page accessing problems right now and get one installed. Whether that's the route of your problem or not it's far more important to get that fixed now ! There's going to be lots of recommendations as to what AV to install but I'll start with my recommendation of Avast! which is free. Avoid AVG coz it's crap now and avoid Norton because it costs money, slows your system down and generally gets in the way of everyday life.
You should never ever be running a PC with no AV software these days. There are viruses EVERYWHERE. You could get away with it to a degree a few years ago but now they're so prevalent it's not worth the risk.
