Martin talked about them recently in a blog and from our meter readings we are burning alot of money in usage here so do want to get a monitor fitted.

I have eyed up these 2 so far.

Current Cost CC129 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Current-Cost-ENVI-CC128-Complete-Transmitter/dp/B002FVJA5I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Owl CM119 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Energy-Wireless-Electricity-Monitor-Friendly/dp/B003SGGC0U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282068425&sr=1-4

Does anyone has recommendations, for/against these?
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

Save your money, read your meters weekly and use a site like https://www.imeasure.org.uk to record your results.

A number of suppliers give these away and some librarys may loan them out.

A library maybe a good option, we really could do with a monitor because this is a new house for us and it has alot of inbuilt stuff like CCTV so it would be good to know a basic usage for them all, and see if its worth keeping it on.

Fair enough, just bear in mind that they are not very accurate below around 300 watts, and make sure you get one with a memory/ cumulative reading feature.

If you really want one, the Current Cost one is much better than the Owl and is available free from British Gas e-on etc.

With have thought about switching suppliers (currently utility warehouse) and E-ON did come up quite well. Can't remember british gas though, i will need to redo all the figures and see who is best, then get that nice cashback on top.

It would not be hard to find much cheaper suppliers than UW, you need to do more than think about switching!

I know, I did some looking but never had time for a full comparison of suppliers.
I need to train my mom more on the computer, she moved house when i was away on university placement, so took over the previous owners supplier. I then returned into a busy 3rd year and got swept into a full time job before I knew it.
There was been time to do the look into and do the switch, but whenever it comes to look at it, its always been a hectic time. Need to pencil some time in on the calender and get it done.

Doing a comparison takes less than 5 mins, go to any of the websites mentioned in the guide on here and enter your usage (if you dont have this a quick call to your supplier will get you the info you need) and with the click of a few buttons you have a comparison, in the time its taken you to write the posts you have made on here you could have done a comparison AND switched..

As espresso said, it doesnt really matter who you switch to, they are almost all going to be cheaper than utility warehouse.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Right, ill have a look at the sites tomorrow and see what information i need. Ill then get it from my supplier and see about moving over to the best one for us.

Cheers all, I know we have some wasteage and I know we can get it cheaper too, so it should really bring down the bills.

It is all very well saying to posters to read their electricity meter but what if it is in a not very accessible place?

I have to go outside to read my meter and it is not very convenient when it is pouring with rain and I am outside in my dressing gown and my neighbour can see me from her window and already thinks I am going dotty in my old age.

My sister has a bus stop outside her front door and she has to ask people to move so she can read her meter. Well she would have if she didn't have a monitor.
