Neighbours roof repair worries

The house on one side of us (terraced house) is owned by the local housing authority, as are a few of the properties on the street. We have been sent a letter a few weeks ago asking for our agreement under ther Party Wall Act for them to be able to reslate the roof.

Now there are 2 roofs that join us from this neighbour, one is the main roof, the other is a pitched roof on the kitchen (Outrigger)

Our main roof was reslated 3 years ago, full strip and reslate with new felt and battens. When I signed the PW agreement I included a letter to advise that and damage to my roof would be the responsibility of the LHA to put right.

Today the scaffolding has been going up and already I have seen the scaffolder walking on my roof over the kitchen. Now this wasn't replaced 3 years ago as with the main roof as we didn't have the funds available to do both, but it's not exactly derelict.

What recourse do I have if my roof (either the main or the one on the kitchen) is damaged?

Also, the LHA has a tendancy to reslate the roofs of it's homes with brand new shiney slate, they did the same with homes up the road 2 years ago and it looks terrible, not only on their house itself, but also of the houses on the same row with some having new slate roof, and then like ours with reused/original slate.

Is there anything we can do about this?

It's odd that the housing authority has served notice under the Party Wall Act, as this Act does not apply to re-roofing work, and is therefore irrelevent - and any rights or obligations granted by the Act are void.

If someone damages your roof, then your rights are that they rectify the damage or you sue them for your costs in rectifying the damage.

If you are able, arrange to meet with whoever is managing the work, get up on the scaffold and have the roof properly inspected before the work is begun and again once complete and before the scaffold removed

Yoy can't do anything about the authority re-slating with new slates. Obviously new slates will be nice and shiney

..........if its for the council or a housing authority they will be covered by a few million pounds worth of insurance they are pretty strict on contractors these days...if they damage your roof get the insurance details..
