Hi
Can anyone shed some light on this for me please.
My son and daughter both have different make laptops. One can connect to the broadband from any room however the other one has to first connect in the same room as the router and then it can be used elsewhere. This seems very odd to me.Why is this?

we also had this problem and took many changes to actually fix it......
the room where my daughters laptop wouldnt connect had a digital cordless phone in - we disconnected this which did help but only for a while, so,
we also logged into the router and changed the channel it was on - this totally worked.......
the other laptop we had also wouldnt connect anywhere but next to the router so -
i found out was because the new router was a wireless n one whereas my laptop wasnt up to date enough for this so, im now using a dongle (were with virgin media) which is a wireless n dongle and problem is solved.....
hope these help you....0 -
Download and install InSSIDer on one of the wifi enabled laptops. Do a scan and I bet you'll find several nearby on the same channel.0

no he doesn't, he meanns several routers in the vicinity all using the same wireless channel, which will cause degradation of the signal and problems connecting to your own router.
Insssider shows what routers are operating in your vicinity and what channels they are working on, so you can pick the channel your router operates on in order to be as far away a channel from the others as possible........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Also if there are a lot of other routers near you pick the channel nearest to the one near the lowest peak on the graph 1 6 13 are fairly the better ones but some kit cannot use channel 13.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I did have a page showing the wireless channels and how they overlap, but can't seem to find it at the mo ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Here is one:I did have a page showing the wireless channels and how they overlap, but can't seem to find it at the mo

Basically there are *three* clear channels that don't overlap any other (1,6,11) - but these may be in use - go for the 'quietest' one :-)
