Dundee Computer Help Recommendations

My son has spilt diluting juice on his lap top. He has turned it upside down and it has dried in. Now some of his keys are not working. Can anyone recommend a Computer Shop in Dundee who could help clean this up?

Bl@@dy teenagers....who would have them?

I'd budget for a replacement keyboard. Ebay is the cheapest place and its something you can do yourself.

You MIGHT want to try immersing the keyboard in distilled water (Halfords type autoshop/supermarket?) leave it there for a good few hours and then THOUROGHLY dry out again (warm place with plenty of air). The OJ would have left a sticky residue behind on the contacts. I say distilled water as this will have less chance of leaving residue behind once its washed the keyboard unlike tap water which has all kinds of stuff in it.
There is no guarantee this will work (the oj might have caused a short/ permanent damage) but seeing as your probably resigned to replacing it it might be worth a pop.
Like I said though, make sure its dry again.

I assume that you mean -
    1 detach keyboard
2 immerse in ...... as above
    3 buy a new lappy

OP sadly i am south of the border (the Severn / Trent border :D)
Depending on laptop it is possible to replace , I am no good at this fat fingers/thumbs/DT's but (I am sure) someone on the forum will be able to help including videos on youtube

keyboard replacement on majority of lappys is pretty easy and straightforward....just when you remove the old one, check that no juice has got past the keyboard and onto the mobo. If the build of the lappy allows, try firing it up with the new keyboard not fully refitted just in case :) Most models replacements can be got for £10-£20 on ebay.

I know it sounds stupid, but when mine had a spillage, I put it on the oven door when it was horizontal after finishing cooking so that it had that heat there to help dry it out. Might help?

hiya, i took my laptop to disk depot on Union street? across from the overgate centre in Dundee, next to a big pub with lots of locals outside all the time. It cost me £25 to get it cleaned up and i havent had any problems since. Maybe you could give them a call and ask for a price upfront.

Thank you for all the replies. It seems it is just the keyboard as he has been given a 'USB' keyboard and it is working fine with that. He is home at the weekend so will get a friend to look at it since it might just need a clean up!

Tulip09, Will keep your suggestionin mind for the future as he is in Dundee for at least the next 4 years and his laptop is essential!

    Thanks again.
